Our “I Am College Material! Project was selected out of 1,220 applications to progress towards this $70,000 fellowship opportunity. The Open Society Foundations and Echoing Green have established a new fellowship program for individuals dedicated to improving the life outcomes of black men and boys in the U.S. It is the first fellowship program of its kind that targets social entrepreneurs who are starting up new and innovative organizations in the field of black male achievement. The Fellowship will include start-up capital and technical assistance over 18 months to help new leaders launch and build their organizations; access to technical support and pro bono partnerships; and a community of like-minded social entrepreneurs and public service leaders. We are so incredibly excited to be considered for this initiative. We’re on to something pretty amazing in 2012!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Contact: Daniel Brown – 214.764.7750

(Dallas, Texas –01/19/12) – The Scholarship Academy has retained Dallas-based Concierge PA as its Agency of Record for Strategic Communications. Under the partnership, Concierge PA will implement and manage the national strategic communications campaign and initiatives for The Scholarship Academy which is headquartered in Atlanta. The campaign will focus on broadening The Scholarship Academy’s market reach in the U. S. which is presently concentrated within the Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Washington D. C. markets.

Daniel Brown, Senior Director of Relationship Management for Concierge PA said, “We are extremely honored to represent such a distinguished and significant organization which impacts so many lives now and in the future. Jessica Johnson, the founder of The Scholarship Academy, and the academy’s board members are class acts in their own right. The culmination of their contributions to families and young people through The Scholarship Academy is awe inspiring and it is time the entire U. S. has a chance to hear its story.”

Founded by Jessica Johnson, The Scholarship Academy which has a 100% college acceptance rate for its students is the only curriculum-based scholarship preparatory program in the U. S. The program, although family-centric, is unique in its approach to scholarship funding attainment as it directly guides and empowers young students to assume the proprietary responsibility of managing their own scholarship enterprise, and building their own financial aid and collegiate funding portfolio. The Scholarship Academy’s platform is also exceptional as it is inclusive of students who have demonstrated average, and in some cases, below average scholastic aptitude.

Since its founding, The Scholarship Academy’s outreach operations have engaged thousands of families and students through its scholarship workshops, boot camps, and fairs. What sets The Scholarship Academy’s outreach operations apart from other scholarship programs is that not only do parents and students receive a structured education in scholarship funding and collegiate finance, but also the students are directly engaged to embrace civic activities designed to help them assume total ownership of their scholarship experience. “Now more than ever, it’s time for us to empower young people to take ownership of the financial aid process,” said Jessica Johnson. “It’s going to take more than a workshop or a list of resources; it’s about people helping students and families develop strategic college funding strategies.”

Students of The Scholarship Academy are not only educated in collegiate funding, but they are also mentored in embracing civic engagement and community service. This key component of The Scholarship Academy program helps students build considerable leadership skills which in turn afford them significant leverage when it comes to scholarship attainment. Since its founding, students of The Scholarship Academy have garnered over $5 million in scholarship funding and have earned recognition on the Oprah Winfrey Show, and in publications including U. S. News and World Report, Ebony, and The Washington Post.

It’s easy to get frustrated with the scholarship application process. With so many deadlines and required attachments, it’s hard to tell which end is up. The best thing to do is get organized. Request 5-7 copies of your official transcript. Ask your recommenders to save your letters electronically so you can address them/tailor them to meet the specific requirements of each award. Save drafts of the most popular scholarship essay questions to use for upcoming awards. These small time savers can help you make HUGE steps towards claiming scholarship success.
